How did you come up with your derby name and number?
I’m a big fan of early AC/DC and an all around fan of that era of metal. I love bombing the track and I love Bon Scott – it’s like a loving tribute to two things I adore. My number is R.I.P. 2/19/80, which is the date of Bonny’s death.

Why did you join TTRB?
Last summer (2010) I was at Greenlake. I hadn’t been on skates in years but a skater from TTRB stopped us and told me about the banked track and I gunned for it ever since. I grew up watching the Bay City Bombers in the SF/East Bay and so that’s what I’ve always associated roller derby with.

How long have you been skating?
Since I could walk! But training for derby? I started the summer of 2010, the year I turned 40 and my kid turned 16. That was the deal I made with myself.

Who is your derby idol?
I think idols are for suckers but I seriously admire Demanda Riot from Bay Area Derby Girls and Team Legit.

What derby related injuries, if any, have you had?
Swollen ankle joint on my right ankle and an ankle fracture, fibula fracture and tibia dislocation, also on the right.

What is your favorite off-skates workout?
Weightlifting and bicycling.

Besides skating, what service do you provide to the league and the community?
I’m the Sponsorship Committee Head and an active member of the Media Committee. I also really enjoy working with new Chicks. It makes me a stronger skater.

What do you do with your time, other than derby?
What is this, “time, other than derby” you speak of?

Do you have a quote/saying that means a lot to you?
Suck it up.

If you could give any advice to a new or interested skater, what would it be?
Don’t let anyone intimidate you, ask a lot of questions, no matter how “stupid” or “inconsequential” you think they are (while there are indeed stupid, inconsequential questions, there aren’t any in Derby), and if you’re confused, tired and sore after dipping your toes in Derby Lake, so are most of us! Also, find someone you can connect with in the community and ask them for help!
