Creep Suzette

How did you come up with your derby name and number?
I’m a pastry chef and I wanted to think of a name that was a play on a dessert name. So, crepe suzette became Creep Suzette. 13 is a baker’s dozen, so named because there always has to be one from the batch that the baker tastes.

How long have you been skating?
Since August of 2009. I started skating with PFM (Potential Fresh Meat), a roller derby practice squad, and skated with them for about a year before getting picked up by TTRB. I would not be here today if it weren’t for PFM, I owe them everything.

Who is your derby idol?
Every woman who straps on a pair of skates and takes on the adventure of roller derby. It really takes a lot to keep pushing yourself, and it is quite daunting when you first start. But also, On Da Sligh, because she has magical skating abilities. I’ve never seen someone slip through a pack so beautifully. I once saw her Tomahawk around an entire pack while simultaneously ducking below the hits coming at her. Amazing.

What do you do with your time, other than derby?
Is there time outside of derby? Just kidding. I like sewing and crafting of all sorts. I love making costumes! I like outdoor activities like camping and hiking, and going to festivals. I am an amateur home brewer and I make my own wines. I am also developing an endurance/energy bar for derby girls called Berserker Bar. It’s delicious. :)

What do you like most about Roller Derby?
I love that anybody can do it. I love that there is a place in this awesome sport for ladies of all sizes, shapes, and athletic backgrounds. You don’t have to have an extensive athletic background; you just need the drive and hunger to play.

What is your biggest fear?
Failure

What are your likes?
CHEESE! Being cozy, sleeping in, hot tea, homemade beer and wine, traveling, charcuterie plates, Halloween, autumn, snow, fires, sunshine, rain, herbalism, gemstones, all things magical, spandex, good times with friends and family, nature, making things with my hands, playing nerdy games, knitted David Bowie dolls, laughing, skating, and competition!

What are your dislikes?
Big egos, close-minded people, people that can’t laugh at themselves, vagueness, passive aggression, inefficiency, disorganization, meanness, all –talk-no-walk, jerks, dates (the fruit), tripe, lack of adventure, monotony, discrimination. And spiders in my house.

What is your favorite color?
Brown. It’s very underestimated.

If you could be anything other than human, what would you be?
Probably a vampire. They have such a seemingly glamorous existence. Live forever, have superpowers of some sort, heal super quick, have/go/do whatever you want! Yeah, sure, you have to feed on people’s blood, and technically you’re dead, but still.
