Tara Hoedown

How did you come up with your derby name and number?
I wanted a name that really fit my personality. I saw one with Hoedown in the name and thought it was hilarious and finally came up with Tara Hoedown and about fell off my chair with laughter and joy. It really sums up my badass side with a little bit of humor.

Why did you join TTRB?
I’ve always wanted to do Roller Derby. When I found out my friend Em-ergency was on the league I decided that it was time to join and I’ve loved every minute of it since.

What is your favorite off-skates workout?
I go to boxing classes.

How has derby improved your life?
Derby has provided a level of athleticism that I’ve always been interested in. I’ve played sports all my life and this one is amazing. It gives you a chance to be yourself while playing a team sport.

What do you like most about Roller Derby?
That you get out of it whatever you put into it. Hard work pays off when you see how good of a skater you become. I also like that there is always something new to learn.

If you could give any advice to a new or interested skater, what would it be?
Get your butt out there and skate! It’s the only way to learn.

What makes you happy?
Skating, friends, family, my kitty kat.
