Tilted Thunder Rail Birds — Seattle All-Female Non-Profit Banked Track Roller Derby
Rail Bird of the Month:
October 2011

Q. What brought you to the Tilted Thunder Rail Birds?
Destiny, Fate, what have you.

I was an only child growing up, not very talented altheletically- "I'm a loner Dottie- A rebel!". I developed an affinity for roller skating at a young age shortly after my parents had given me a pair for Christmas 1 year. From that point on if I wasn't skating around the neighboorhood, in the park or in the carport (*to the G-Go's mostly, haha)- I was skating at the Roll-A-Way (aka: LBS).

This coupled with stories told by my dad and his mom about watching roller derby when he was a kid in the 60's and how much they loved having the memories- Made me desperately wish that there was Jr. Roller Derby when I was younger!

The day finally came when my kids got older, and I needed something focused and fun in my life to deter me from empty nest syndrome.. and even though it had been roughly 23 years since I had roller skated, I had 2 people mention Tilted Thunder Rail Birds to me inside of a 1 week period- so, I contacted TTRB, 1 week later (on 10/22/2009) was the next scheduled orientation. It was a now or never opportunity for me and a very persuasive and exciting presentation by an exceptional group of women. Resistence was truly futile, I was hooked!

Q. How did you come up with your name?
My name is compliments of Betty Ford Galaxy. She's pretty smart like that!

Q. What inspires you to kick butt like you do?
(after internally uproarious laughter has subsided, I look around for the person that is being asked this question- but it's a fruitless search as I am the only one in the room right now.)

My own personal fears and goals combined with encouragement and support from my fellow SUGAR SKULLS! (BEST TEAM EVER!!)

Q. What is the best part about doing derby?
"The" best part?! Oh honey- It's ALL the BEST!

Q. What advice would you give the new chicks?
You are your own worst enemy- so enjoy every success, embrace every defeat as an opportunity to grow, and remember that you are here to have FUN! Always have FUN!

Q. What is your most embarrassing moment?
Never embarrassed- If you cant laugh at yourself, in this instance: while learning derby, you're playing the wrong sport, my friend!

Q. What do you do when you’re not skating?
Hmm- Hang out with my family, volunteer in outside non-profit agencies, Derby Committee work, Visit with *gasp* Non-Derby friends, Reflect on any derby goals I have... and most currently, look for a new career/job.

Q. What is your beverage of choice?
Boring but true, water. Then red wine & Coffee.... "I'd like a buffet of Beverages of Choice please!"

Q. If you could be an animal, what would you be?
Well since there is no having to define between Fictional or Non-Fictional: Cthulhu! Quite the beast!

(Associative Logic here: Cthulhu=Beast, Lion= Animal+ King of Beasts... Therefore by association and for all intent and purpose: Animal+Lion=Beast+500 Hp+250 Damage= Cthulhu(Animal).

Q. And lastly, if you were caught in an elevator with the leading man or woman of your dreams, right now, what color underwear would they catch you in?
Seriously?!

"She is simply amazing: generous with her time, beautiful attitude, always present and a f***ing joy to be around."

"In the summer of carwashes she went above and beyond the minimum requirement and helped out at just about every team car wash. As a member, and now head of the disciplinary committee (N.E.S.T.), she gets to hear all our dirty laundry, but maintains a mellow and upbeat attitude. She also dedicates her time to help out at many of our volunteer events which is important to our mission of community involvement."

"She is cool, calm, and collected and an utter sweetheart!"
