Tripsy Daisy
Q. What brought you to the Tilted Thunder Rail Birds?
A. I skated with the founders of TTRB while we were all in PFM. I liked them, I liked what they were doing and I wanted to be in on the beginning stages of a brand new league.
Q. How did you come up with your name?
A. I fell a lot as a kid and my mom always said, "Oopsy Daisy", when she would see it. My mom passed away when I was 26 and so she never got to see me play or fall in derby. I wanted to remember and honor her in this stage of my life, so my derby name is for her.
Q. What inspires you to kick butt like you do?
A. I've got to get in to the right head space before I go into a bout. I created a list of the bad or unfair things that have happened to me in my life. I go through the list next to the opposing team's color. I have to associate that color with anger and pain. That's the only way I can play like I do.
Q. What is the best part about doing derby?
A. My favorite part of derby is the practices. Believe it or not, a lot of time the practices are harder than bouting. That is where I really push. That is where I challenge myself to get better. That is where I find and give encouragement to my team and leaguemates.
Q. What advice would you give the new chicks?
A. Don't ever compare yourself or your progress to others. You are the only one you have to get better than.
Q. What is your most embarrassing moment?
A. I have embarrassing moments all the time. I fall, trip, stumble and miss. It happens so often then I'm a little hardened to embarrassment. Who cares. Get up, brush it off and try again.
Q. What do you do when you’re not skating?
A. I work 2 jobs, so I don't have a lot of extra time outside of that and roller derby. When I do have time I like to meet friends for cocktails, I get away from the city, when ever possible, with my boyfriend, I cross train, I work on home projects and I rest.
Q. What is your beverage of choice?
A. That depends on my mood. I love strawberry milkshakes, chai tea, diet Dr. Pepper, Bloody Marys, flavored vodkas and soda water, ales and lots of water with lemon.
Q. If you could be an animal, what would you be?
A. I think I'd be a domesticated cat but only if I had a loving home. If I couldn't choose my family then maybe a T-Rex. Can I pick something extinct?
Q. And lastly, if you were caught in an elevator with the leading man or woman of your dreams, right now, what color underwear would they catch you in?
A. Multi-colored polka-dot cotton bikinis.
